New Drawing Tools Tips

February 27, 2008

The new Drawing Tools feature can be found in the Tools Menu (under the last button on the right). It’s right at the top of the list. Clicking the Drawing Tools option opens another menu, where you can choose a pen, highlighter or arrow.

The pen and highlighter are pretty self-explanatory, but did you know that if you hold the Shift key while you draw a horizontal or vertical line with the pen or the highlighter, you’ll automatically draw a straight line? Neat!

The arrow lets you stamp a fat, stationary arrow on your customer’s screen—it’s a lot faster than circling something or drawing your own arrow. Just point to where you want the arrow and click your mouse.

Then, when you’re done scribbling on your customer’s screen, you can select “Normal non-drawing mode” to go back to your regular mouse function but leave all your doodles on the screen. Or, you can click “Erase all drawings” and all your modern art will magically disappear…

GoToAssist Express New Features Overview

February 20, 2008

GoToAssist Express was just updated to a new version, build 61! New features that were just added to the product are:

Expanded Usage Report Formats - PDF, Excel, and CSV versions of the reports are now available

Expanded File Transfer Options - Added Get Files option to the Viewer Menu under File Transfer. Drag and drop now works to both the customer’s screen and the thumbnail representation of it.

Drawing Tools - We added drawing tools to the product under the tools menu so you can highlight parts of the customers screen, use an arrow stamper, etc.

Vista Improvements - We made a number of improvements to allow users on Vista to get into session much easier and faster

More features are coming soon and will posted on the blog, so keep checking back!

What’s under the Tools Button These Days

February 8, 2008

Obviously, your job as a beta tester is to try out all the buttons. Recently, we changed the User Interface, so things have moved around a bit. We hope you’ve already found these functions but we thought we’d bring some of the cool ones under the Tools button to your attention, just to make sure you don’t miss them.

First, there’s Send Ctrl-Alt-Delete. This used to have its own button, but we think it fits better under the Tools button. Funny how your customer has to hold down three keys at once, but you only have to click a button and select an option, huh? Much easier to do it yourself than to try to tell your customer to do it, especially if they don’t know that “Ctrl” is pronounced, “Control.”

Remember the Restart button? Gone. Now, there’s Reboot and Reboot in Safe Mode in the Tools menu. They both restart your customer’s computer and allow you to get back into the same GoToAssist Express session, but Safe Mode lets you restart in a diagnostic mode that disables unnecessary functions, so you can isolate what’s causing your customer’s problem.

Next we have Setup Unattended Support, which I have on good authority may be moving out of the Tools menu in a later update, so don’t get too comfy with it here. Select this to set up a link allowing you to provide support when your customer is away from their computer. Setting up Unattended Support requires your customer’s permission, though, so don’t think you can be sneaky about it or anything.

Finally, there’s Upgrade to Run as a Service, which may be grayed out for you because GoToAssist Express runs as a service by default to enable you to do things like Send Ctrl-Alt-Delete. This option is there in case the initial request to run as a service fails due to insufficient permissions.

By the way, Remote Diagnostics used to be under the Tools button, but now it has its own button. Send Ctrl-Alt-Delete and Reboot are totally jealous.
