BYOPC (Bring Your Own PC) or BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programs are becoming more and more popular, and it looks like this trend is here to stay.
Does your company offer employees a bring-your-own-device option? If so, I thought you might enjoy this article authored by our very own Chris Fleck (VP of Mobility Solutions and Alliances at Citrix Systems) on TabTimes.com. Chris cogently details a number of options and safe ways to allow BYOD programs in your organization.
Company policies, says Chris, are changing rapidly due to the dramatic increase in mobile device usage and the variety of devices and platforms available. The options for your organization include mobile device management, mobile app management, web apps, virtual desktop virtualization and mobile virtualization.
And let’s not forget about remote management and monitoring of the devices along with remote access. Your IT solution must also identify how to support these devices and access them – do I dare mention a market-leading remote support product like GoToAssist or GoToManage that also happens to integrate other useful features, such as network device monitoring and Off-LAN device monitoring (and let’s not forget about the importance of GoToMyPC, which lets an employee access his/her Mac® or PC from anywhere).
The right BYOD program for your organization may be a combination of solutions, in addition to maintaining existing implementations. A great way to identify what’s right for your organization is to read Chris’s analysis and go out, listen and learn what other IT colleagues are doing about BYOD programs. Ask your employees too and follow the research on the impact of consumerization on IT service delivery.

Recommend a more affordable alternative to GoToAssist: GoSupportNow.
GoSupportNow, $19.95/month
GotoAssist express: $69/month
Logmein Rescue: $129/month
GoToAssist Express also has a Free version of our market leading remote support service. Free is definitely better than $19.95 per month, check out our Free Remote Support iPad App. It’s great for customers who only need to provide live, on-the-fly remote support from their iPad mobile device. Sign up for your free account first, then download the iPad app, login with your email address and password to get started.
It is amazing how big BYOD is becoming and some of the security concerns that arise with it. Interesting, I just read Chris’s analysis right before coming here! I am in the BYOD research phase tonight. Thanks again.
Your welcome and thanks for stopping by!
I don’t think it is a good idea. It is good for organizations because they don’t have to spend on the technical items and support…
Mobile devices are really in high demand these days because people like to browse the internet by phone.
I think it depends on the size of the organisation with this whole BYOD argument. If your a small creative business, then allowing people to bring their own devices into work will enable the sharing of ideas etc. However if your a large business with a few hundred pc users, your asking for headaches allowing BYOD.
