In a cogent article, Jeff James of Windows It Pro presents the main reasons IT managers and CIOs are considering turning over part of their IT infrastructure to the cloud.

James notes that “cloud computing is rapidly making inroads into most organizations.” In fact, a survey of 600 senior IT and business executives reveals that a majority will be adopting cloud tools and solutions in their firms within the next two years.

While admitting some limits to the cloud-hosted IT solutions, the article challenges whether legacy software applications are “really worth the time, expense, and human capital needed to keep them running when superior cloud-based alternatives are available?”

James also offers a quick assessment of the likely employment consequence for IT professionals as the cloud gathers on the IT horizon.
